Church Governance Workshop
There is an urgent and growing need for the Church to provide some fundamental training in matters of governance to people who generously put up their hands to serve on their Church Council. These people usually have a deep love for, and desire to serve, the Church, but often have little idea about the responsibilities and duties involved in the role they are taking on. Sydney Presbytery have developed a one-day training package to fill this need and have offered to bring their training team to Macquarie Darling Presbytery. All Church Council members – new and long serving – are urged to attend ….. come as a group and gain maximum benefit!
Church Governance Workshop Sat 6 April 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Dubbo Uniting Church
All participants receive a detailed resource book to support the workshops. The morning session will be held as one group, and deals with general principles of governance and matters applicable to all Council members. In the afternoon, discrete sessions are offered for Chairpersons, Secretaries and Treasurers. But even if you do not hold one of these roles now you are welcome to stay in the workshop of your choice, or you can leave at lunchtime. In past workshops run by the Sydney Presbytery team, most people have stayed on for one of the afternoon sessions. Overall, the day runs from 9:00 am until about 4:00 pm.
Morning and afternoon teas will be provided.
Lunch is bring your own, or buy at one of the local eateries.
While the focus is obviously on governance, there is a strong emphasis on the priority of ministry and mission. Good governance is not an end in itself, but is an important condition by which the Church’s work of mission can be realised. We believe that this training stands alongside Safe Church training, as an essential component of good ministry.
There will be small cost to participants ($10) for materials, but otherwise Sydney Presbytery are generously covering their costs for providing the training.
